آبادانی بمعنی ’’آباد ہونا، آبادی‘‘۔ یہ ’’آباداں‘‘ پر یائے فاعلی لگا کرحاصل ہوا ہے۔ فارسی میں بھی ہے۔’’آباداں‘‘ اور ’’آبادانی‘‘ اردو میں پہلے مستعمل تھے، لیکن معلوم نہیں کیوں اب یہ دونوں خوبصورت لفظ کچھ دن سےعام استعمال میں بہت کم نظرآتے ہیں۔ یہ بات دلچسپ ہے کہ ’’آباد/آباداں/آبادانی‘‘ سب ٹھیک ہیں، لیکن ’’بہاراں‘‘ سے’’بہارانی‘‘ اور’’شاداں‘‘ سے’’شادانی‘‘ صرف اصولاً درست ہیں، عام بول چال میں نہیں ہیں۔ علامہ شاداں بلگرامی کے شاگرد جو اپنے کو’’شادانی‘‘ لکھتے ہیں، اس میں یائے نسبتی ہے یعنی’’شاداں سے منسلک‘‘، وغیرہ۔
