اہمیت یہ لفظ عربی میں نہیں ہے، اردو والوں نے’’اہم‘‘ سے بمعنی ’’اہم ہونا‘‘ بنالیا ہے۔ عربی میں’’اہم‘‘ کی میم مشدد ہے، اس لئے بعض لوگوں کے خیال میں ’’اہمیت‘‘ کوبھی مع تشدید میم اور یائے معروف کی بھی تشدید کے ساتھ بولنا چاہئے۔ لیکن جب یہ لفظ عربی میں ہے ہی نہیں، تو اس کا تلفظ عربی قاعدے سے کرنا لا یعنی ہے۔ دوسری بات یہ کہ رواج عام کو قواعد پر ترجیح ہے، اور اردو میں’’اہم‘‘ بہ تسہیل میم بروزن فَعَل، یا بروزن ’’شکم‘‘ بولتے ہیں، تو پھر’’اہمیت‘‘ کی میم مشدد کیوں ہو؟ لہٰذا ’’اہمیت‘‘ اردو میں عموماً فعولن، یعنی بروزن ’’حقیقت‘‘ بولا جاتا ہے، اور کہیں کہیں بروزن فاعلن، یعنی بروز ن ’’عافیت ‘‘ بھی بولا جاتا ہے۔ فی الحال یہ دونوں تلفظ صحیح ہیں۔ واضح رہے کہ ’’اہمیت‘‘ نسبۃًنیا لفظ ہے۔یہ پلیٹس، ’’آصفیہ‘‘، اور ’’امیر اللغات‘‘ کیا، ’’نور‘‘ میں بھی نہیں ہے۔
