الف لیلوی بروزن ’’غیر حاضری‘‘ یا بر وزن فاعلات فع، اول مفتوح، بمعنی ’’الف لیلہ سے متعلق، الف لیلہ کی طرز کا، جو چیز الف لیلہ میں واقع ہو۔‘‘ یہ لفظ عربی میں نہیں ہے، اردو والوں نے بنا لیا ہے۔ ظاہر ہے کہ ’’الف لیلہ‘‘ داستانوں کے اس مجموعے کا نام ہے جسے انگریزی میں Arabian Nights کہتے ہیں۔ ’’الف لیلہ‘‘ میں ہائے ہوز دراصل تائے تانیث ہے، یعنی’’لیل‘‘ کی جمع ’’لیلہ‘‘ اور عربی میں یہ مؤنث ہے ۔ اردو میں’’لیلہ‘‘ کو ’’لیلیٰ‘‘ فرض کرکے یائے نسبتی لگاتے وقت الف مقصورہ کو حسب قاعدہ واؤ میں بدل لیا گیا (دیکھئے،’’الف مقصورہ‘‘)۔ اگر یہ خیال رکھا جاتا کہ اصل میں تائے تانیث ہے تو ’’لیلوی‘‘ کی جگہ ’’لیلتی‘‘ بناتے، جیسے ’’برکت/ برکتی، عشرت/عشرتی، نصرت/نصرتی‘‘ وغیرہ۔ لیکن زبان یوں ہی اپنا عمل کرتی ہے۔
