عقلیت بمعنی’’عقل پرستی، عقیدے یا جذبے کے بجائےعقل کو رہنما بنانا‘‘۔ ان معنی میں یہ لفظ عربی فارسی میں نہیں ہے، اردو والوں نے’’عقلی‘‘ سے بطرزعربی بنا لیا ہے۔ اردو میں اس کا تلفظ حرف چہارم کی تشدید کے ساتھ، یعنی بروزن مفعولن کبھی کبھی سننے میں آتا ہے۔ لیکن عموماً اسے بتخفیف یائے معروف، یعنی بروزن فاعلن بولا جاتا ہے۔ بعض لوگوں کا خیال ہے کہ اس لفظ کوصرف بروزن مفعولن ہی بولنا چاہئے۔ شان الحق حقی نے یہی لکھا ہے، لیکن مجھے دہلی میں بھی یہ لفظ بروزن فاعلن ہی سنائی دیا ہے۔ یہ کہنا درست نہ ہوگا کہ چونکہ عربی میں’’عقلیہ‘‘ بتشدید یائے معروف ہے، اس لئے اردو میں’’عقلیت‘‘ کو بھی بتشدید یائے معروف بولنا چاہئے۔عربی میں’’عقلیہ‘‘ تانیث ہے’’عقلی‘‘ کی، اس سے ’’عقل پرستی‘‘ کے معنی مستفاد نہیں ہوتے۔ عربی لفظ ’’عقلیہ‘‘ لفظ کا آخری حرف تائے تانیث ہے، لاحقۂ کیفیت نہیں۔ دوسری بات یہ کہ اردو میں بیش از بیش لوگ اب ’’عقلیت‘‘ بروزن فاعلن بولتے ہیں اور اسی کو درست ، یا کم ازکم مرجح ماننا چاہئے۔
