فرزی شطرنج کا سب سے طاقتور مہرہ اردو فارسی میں ’’وزیر‘‘، ’’فرزیں‘‘یا ’’فرزی‘‘، اور انگریزی میں Queen کہلاتا ہے۔ یعنی’’فرزیں‘‘ کی ایک شکل ’’فرزی‘‘ بھی ہے۔ یہ لفظ اردو میں بہت کم مستعمل ہے، لیکن بالکل نا پید نہیں۔ ’’اردو لغت، تاریخی اصول پر‘‘ میں اس کے استعمال کی دو مثالیں درج ہیں۔ شیخ علی محمد جیو گام دھنی کی’’جواہراسراراللہ‘‘ (۵۶۵۱) کا یہ شعر ملاحظہ ہو ؎ ہوشہ فرزی اپیں آیا مہرے ہوکر بھیں بھرایا شیکسپیئر اور پلیٹس کے یہاں’’فرزی‘‘ اور ’’فرزیں‘‘ وونوں ہیں، لیکن’’آصفیہ‘‘ اور’’نوراللغات‘‘ میں’’فرزی‘‘ کا پتہ نہیں۔ ’’فرہنگ آنند راج‘‘، ’’برہان قاطع‘‘، اور’’غیاث اللغات‘‘ میں’’فرز‘‘ بکسر اول بھی ’’فرزی/فرزیں‘‘ کے معنی میں لکھا ہوا ہے۔ لیکن ’’غیاث‘‘ کی عبارت سے مترشح ہوتا ہے کہ یہ کوئی مہرہ تھا جو شاید اب مستعمل نہیں۔’’موید الفضلا‘‘ اور’’برہان‘‘ میں ’’فرزان‘‘ بکسر اول بھی فرزیں کے معنی میں ملتا ہے۔
