کانجی ہاؤس کانجی بروزن فاعلن یا بروزن کام جی، تامل اور تیلیگو زبانوں کا لفظ ہے لیکن ہمارے یہاں غالباً انگریزی سے آیاہے۔ تامل/تیلیگو میں ’’کانجی‘‘ بہت پتلے پکائے ہوئے چاول کو کہتے ہیں، بلکہ اسے پکائے ہوئے چاولوں کی پیچ یا پساون کہہ سکتے ہیں۔ ظاہر ہے کہ اس میں غذائیت برائے نام ہوتی ہے۔ انگریزوں نے اسے Congee کہا لیکن تلفظ وہی کانجی رکھا۔ انگریزی انتظام میں جن سپاہیوں کو قید کی سزا دیتے تھے انھیں کھانے کے لئے صرف کانجی ملتی تھی۔ اس طرح، جس خیمے میں یہ قیدی رکھے جاتے تھے اسے Congee House کہنے لگے۔ یہی نام پھران باڑوں یا چھپر کے گھروں کے لئے منتقل ہوگیا جن میں آوارہ پھرنے والے جانوروں کو، یا کسی کے جانور کو بجبر اس کے مالک سے لے کر قید میں رکھا جاتا تھا۔ یہ لفظ انھیں معنی میں اب بھی اردو میں رائج ہے۔ انگریزی میں اب مستعمل نہیں۔
