قہوہ اول سوم مفتوح۔ کشمیر میں جو مشروب ’’قہوہ‘‘ کے نام سے مقبول ہے و ہ عربی اور اردو’’قہوہ‘‘ سے بالکل مختلف ہے۔ کافی (coffee) کو عربی اور اردو میں ’’قہوہ‘‘ کہتے ہیں۔ اب اردو میں لفظ ’’قہوہ‘‘ بہت کم بولا جاتا ہے۔ بظاہرcoffee اور ’’قہوہ‘‘ میں کوئی آواز یا حرف مشترک نہیں، لیکن اغلب یہ ہے کہ دونوں کی اصل Kaffa ہو جو ملک حبش کے اس علاقے کا نام ہے جہاں پہلے پہل قہوے کی کاشت ہوئی۔ اس بات کا امکان ہے کہ ہمارے یہاں شروع شروع میں’’کافی‘‘ اور’’قہوہ‘‘ دونوں لفظ رائج رہے ہوں۔ سترہویں صدی کے بعض انگریز سیاحوں کے بیانات سے ایسا ہی متبادر ہوتا ہے۔ اگر ایسا ہے تو لفظ ’’کافی‘‘ ہمارے یہاں سے انگریزی میں گیا، نہ کہ انگریزی سے ہمارے یہاں آیا۔
