ڈیرا آج کل اس لفظ کو ’’عارضی قیام گاہ‘‘ کے معنی میں کبھی کبھی بولتے ہیں، ورنہ عام طور پریہ ’’ڈیرہ [یا ڈیرا] خیمہ‘‘ کے روزمرہ کے طور پر مستعمل ہے، اور زیادہ تر ہلکے، مزاحیہ مطالب کے لئے صرف ہوتا ہے۔ دہلی میں انیسویں صدی کے وسط تک اسے’’گھر، مستقر، مستقل قیام گاہ‘‘ کے معنی میں بھی استعمال کرتے تھے، میر سوز ؎ گئے گھر سے جو ہم اپنے سویرے سلام اللہ خاں صاحب کے ڈیرے کوے قاتل کو چلے ہیں پر بجا لائیں گے شکر ہم سلامت پھر کے جس دم اپنے ڈیرے آئیں گے (بہادر شاہ ظفر) پورب، خاص کر بہار میں اس لفظ کو’’گھر، مستقر، مستقل قیام گاہ‘‘ کے معنی میں اب بھی بولتے ہیں۔ ان معنی میں اب اسے پورب اور بہار کا مقامی روزمرہ سمجھنا چاہئے۔
