جائزہ عام طور پر اس لفظ کو’’معائنہ‘‘، ’’جانچ‘‘، اور’’پڑتال‘‘ کے معنی میں بولتے ہیں، خاص کر جب معائنہ، جانچ، یا پڑتال عمومی طورکی ہو۔ مثلاً ’’میں نے جائزہ لیا تو اندازہ ہوا کہ مسودے میں خامیاں ہیں‘‘،یا ’’سرسری جائزہ لیا گیا تو پتہ لگا کہ کئی کاغذات گم ہیں۔‘‘ لیکن دکن میں اسے ’’ عہدہ یا ذمہ داری، یا ذمہ داری کو حاصل کرنے کی شہادت کے کاغذات‘‘ کے معنی میں بھی بولتے ہیں۔ مثلاً، ’’انھوں نے کلکٹری کا جائزہ لیا‘‘، یا ’’جائزہ سنبھالتے ہی ان کی توجہ سماجی اصلاحات کی طرف ہوئی‘‘۔ ان معنی میں یہ لفظ پہلے زمانے میں شمال میں بھی بولتے تھے ۔’’ابن الوقت‘‘ میں ہے: ’’صاحب کلکٹر کو جائزہ دلوا کر نوبل صاحب کو تیسرے دن ولایت چلتا کیا۔‘‘ آج کے زمانے میں یہ لفظ ان معنی میں دکن کا مقامی محاورہ کہا جائے گا۔ یہ لفظ عربی میں’’انعام‘‘ اور’’صلہ‘‘ کے معنی میں مستعمل ہے۔ جدید اردو میں نہیں، لیکن پرانی اردو میں تھا۔ میر، دیوان دوم ؎ کیا لطف تھا سخن کا جب وے بھی صحبتیں تھیں ہر بات جائزہ ہے ہر بیت پر صلے ہیں
