- ایک خاردار درخت جو بیری سے مشابہ ہوتا ہے اور جن٘گل اور پہاڑوں میں پیدا ہوتا ہے، اس کے پتے بھی بیری کے پتوں سے مشابہ مگر کسی قدر لمبے اور بے کنگرہ، پھول مکو کے پھول کی طرح اور پھل مکو کے پھل سے کسی قدر بڑا ہوتا ہے. خام سبز اور کسی قدر ترش اور پکنے کے بعد سیاہ اور شیریں ہوجاتا ہے، جاڑوں میں پک جاتا ہے، دوسرے درجے میں سرد و خشک ہے.
