ابابیل اول مفتوح، یائے معروف۔ یہ لفظ جمع اور مؤنث ہے لیکن اردو میں واحد کی طرح بولتے ہیں۔ نذیر احمد کی ’’توبۃ ا لنصوح‘‘ میں ہے: اس مکان میں ابابیلوں کی بھی کثرت ہے، روشنی دیکھ کر گرنے شروع ہوں گے اورآپ کا بیٹھنا دشوار کردیں گے۔ اس لحاظ سے ’’ابابیل‘‘ مذکر ٹھہرتا ہے۔جناب عبد الرشید نے متوجہ کیا ہے کہ ’’آصفیہ‘‘ اور ’’نور‘‘ میں یہ لفظ مؤنث ہی درج ہے، لہٰذا اس کی جنس کو مختلف فیہ قرار دینا چاہئے۔ لیکن مجھے ایک خیال یہ بھی آتا ہے کہ ممکن ہے نذیر احمد نے ’’گرنی شروع ہوں گی ‘‘ لکھنا چاہا ہو لیکن پرانے لوگوں کے عام طریقے کے موافق بڑی ے (گرنے/ہوں گے) لکھ کر چھوٹی ی مراد لی ہو۔ موجودہ صورت میں یہ کہنا چاہئے کہ ’’ابابیل‘‘ کو بعض لوگ مذکر اور اکثر لوگ مؤنث قرار دیتے ہیں۔ لیکن اگر یہ مذکر ہے تو اس کا مؤنث کچھ نہیں، اور اگر مؤنث ہے تو اس کا مذکر کچھ نہیں۔ جناب شاہ حسین نہری نے مطلع کیاہے کہ’’ابابیل‘‘ کو دکن میں بھی جمع مؤنث بولتے ہیں۔ دیکھئے، ’’تانیث سے عاری نام، جانوروں کے‘‘، دیکھئے، ’’تذکیر سے عاری نام، جانوروں کے‘‘۔
